Why Grape Juice Mom?

Clearly, I’ve gone crazy. I am an active duty officer in grad school for Statistics. I have two children, the youngest only eight months old. My husband just returned home from Afghanistan before our daughter’s birth. But there’s something missing.

My husband and I dream of owning a wine bar. Every time we go on a date or have a few quiet minutes to ourselves when the girls are in bed, we dream of every tiny detail of our wine bar. The location, the interior design, the business model, everything. We know we won’t be able to open our wine bar until we are in retirement and have the capital needed to take on such a venture. But I started to ask myself: why wait? Sure, we can’t open the wine bar now, but why can’t I start on the journey and explore my love of wine? I have brainstormed day in and day out on how I could do that and I have come to this conclusion: Grape Juice Mom.

Grape Juice Mom LLC is a blog and social media company tailored towards the people I love drinking wine with the most: moms, working moms, military spouses, and anyone who loves affordable wine. When I say affordable, I mean less than $15 per bottle. Realistically, that is what I drink most and I have found that there are some really great wines that are less than $15 a bottle.

I think we can remove the uppity, snooty factor of tasting wine and get down to the basics. Because what is wine? It’s just grape juice. Sure, it’s a little more refined than that, but who is to say that a boxed wine can’t be enjoyed as much as a $30 bottle? If you were given a blind taste testing of five Chardonnay’s, could you identify which were boxed, canned, $7 per bottle, or $20 per bottle? And would your preference increase with price? These are some topics I look forward to exploring through this blog.

Oh, and there’s one more thing. I am a total math geek. So if you enjoy hearing the numbers and statistics behind wine, I am very excited to be calculating those myself as well as doing research on various wine topics.

So, thanks for joining me until now and I hope you will stay with me on this journey to explore, learn, and share wine.
